Quick verdict
For a professional workshop tuning multiple ECUs every day, Softechpro is the most advanced option of the six — it has the deepest ECU library, the cleanest Stage 1/2 maps, and the most thorough checksum coverage for Bosch, Continental, Delphi, Marelli and Siemens platforms. For occasional or solo tuners who want a friendly UI, a Cloud Tuning fallback, and a price point under €500, DaVinci Deluxe is the right entry. The four remaining tools — Fixwave, XDecoder, XIRDecoder and XRemover — each cover a narrow slice well but fall short on at least one of: ECU coverage, checksum integrity, or modern Bosch MED17/EDC17 family support. Below is the full breakdown.

Tool-by-tool deep dive
Softechpro
The most advanced of the six. Built for tuners who tune for a living.
What it does well
- Deepest ECU library: covers Bosch EDC15/16/17, MED9/17, Continental SID full range, Siemens SIMOS18 family (including the newer .10 and .12), Delphi DCM3.x and DCM6.x, Magneti Marelli MJD, Visteon. Most competitors stop at EDC17.
- Real Stage 1 / Stage 2 maps: proper VE / boost / fuel / timing map editing, not just service deletes. Output files are dyno-validated.
- Checksum integrity: automatic CRC32 + byte-sum + custom OEM checksums on save. We have never seen a file rejected for checksum from Softechpro output.
- Module-level granularity: DPF, EGR, AdBlue, Lambda, MAF, NOX, FLAPS, TVA, Readiness, Start-Stop, immo off, hardcut, launch control — all independently selectable.
- Hardware Protection plan for the rare case where a write goes wrong on a bench tool: repair coverage up to a fixed cap.
Trade-offs
- Steeper learning curve than DaVinci Deluxe — assumes you already know what Lambda, MAF and pop-cracks & bangs do.
- Price point sits in the pro bracket. Not the right buy if you tune two cars a year.
Who it's for
Workshops doing 10+ tuning jobs per week, mobile tuners covering a wide range of brands, and tuning groups that need the same software across multiple bench setups.
DaVinci Deluxe
Friendly entry point. Cloud Tuning makes the impossible possible.
What it does well
- Beginner-friendly UI — anyone who has used Windows can produce a working DPF/EGR off file in their first hour.
- Cloud Tuning fallback: if the desktop can't process a file, our Cloud Tuning service runs it through our processing partners and returns the tuned file via email + WhatsApp. Free on Pro / Monthly / Yearly plans.
- WhatsApp submission — customers can send the .bin directly to our chat and we handle the upload.
- Trial — 10 minutes free on the desktop, and a 1h-Daily license for €40 lets you test before committing.
- Yearly Unlimited (€790/year) ships with a free Softechpro Pro license bonus (1 PC) — the cleanest path to graduate from entry to pro.
Trade-offs
- SIMOS18 and a few rare ECU families are Cloud Tuning only on the desktop side. Not a problem if you're online, but bench setups should plan around it.
- The deeper Stage 2 / Pops & Bangs work goes through Cloud Tuning, not local edits.
Who it's for
Solo tuners, first-time chiptuners, garages tuning a few cars a month, and anyone who values UX and predictable pricing.
Fixwave
Solid for DPF / EGR removal on Bosch EDC17. Stops there.
Fixwave is a focused tool that does one thing well: emissions deletes on Bosch EDC17. Pricing is per-file. If your daily mix is DPF/EGR/AdBlue on common diesels, it can work. Where it falls apart is anything outside that window: Stage 1 maps, MED17 gasoline, Siemens SIMOS18, or any custom module work. There is no Cloud Tuning fallback and no proper editor.
Verdict: use it as a secondary tool for the cheapest possible per-file delete, but you'll still need Softechpro or DaVinci Deluxe for everything else.
XDecoder
Niche decoder. Stops at a few ECU families.
XDecoder targets a small set of ECUs (mainly older Bosch EDC15/16 family) with a basic feature set: DPF, EGR, some DTC removal. The interface is dated. No Continental SID, no Siemens SIMOS18, no checksum correction beyond the simplest CRC. We rate it as a niche tool — useful if your entire business is one specific ECU family, less so if you cover multiple brands.
Verdict: single-platform specialists only. Pair with Softechpro for everything else.
XIRDecoder
XDecoder's sibling. Same scope, same limitations.
XIRDecoder shares architecture with XDecoder and inherits the same trade-offs: narrow ECU coverage, manual checksum work on anything non-Bosch, and no remote / Cloud Tuning fallback. If you already have XDecoder, adding XIRDecoder rarely adds enough new ECUs to justify the second license.
Verdict: skip unless you have a specific ECU it covers that you can't get elsewhere.
XRemover
DTC removal only.
XRemover does exactly what its name says: removes diagnostic trouble codes. It's not a tuning tool, doesn't do Stage 1 / Stage 2 / DPF / EGR. If your only job is killing a stubborn P0420 / P0380 / P2002, it's a clean choice. For everything else, you'll still need a proper tuning suite.
Verdict: good complement, not a replacement.
How to choose — decision matrix
You tune for a living, multiple ECUs every day: Softechpro. Pay the pro price once, get the deepest coverage. Pair with DaVinci Deluxe's Cloud Tuning for the edge cases that even the best desktop can't process.
You're starting out or tune a few cars a month: DaVinci Deluxe. Friendly UI, trial available, Cloud Tuning for anything the desktop can't handle. When your volume grows, upgrade to a Yearly Unlimited — you get a Softechpro Pro license bonus included, no extra cost.
You only do DPF / EGR removal on common diesels: Fixwave can work as a low-cost per-file tool. You'll still want DaVinci or Softechpro for Stage 1 jobs.
You specialise in one specific ECU family: XDecoder or XIRDecoder may be worth a look if they cover your exact platform. Otherwise, get a wider tool.
You only need to clear DTCs: XRemover is the cheapest specialist tool for that one job.
Frequently asked questions
Is Softechpro related to DaVinci Deluxe?
Softechpro and DaVinci Deluxe are separate partner companies. We work together — Yearly Unlimited customers get a free Softechpro Pro license bonus — but they are independently run.
Can I run Softechpro and DaVinci Deluxe on the same PC?
Yes. They do not conflict. Many pro tuners run both — DaVinci for the friendly UI and Cloud Tuning, Softechpro for deep map work.
Do any of these tools work on Mac or Linux?
Softechpro and DaVinci Deluxe both ship Windows binaries. Mac / Linux users typically run them in a Windows VM. The other four are Windows-only.
What about checksum errors after writing the tuned file back to the ECU?
Softechpro and DaVinci Deluxe both auto-correct checksums on save for all supported families. Fixwave handles most Bosch families. XDecoder, XIRDecoder and XRemover require you to verify or correct checksums separately for non-Bosch platforms — DaVinci Deluxe's free Bosch MED17/EDC17 checksum corrector can help.
Which tool has the best ECU identification?
DaVinci Deluxe's free ECU Identifier handles auto-detection from a raw .bin / .hex / .ori dump. Use it before buying any tuning suite — knowing the ECU family is the first step.
Is there a free trial?
DaVinci Deluxe offers 10 minutes free on the desktop. Softechpro has a 1h-Daily license starting at the entry price point. Fixwave, XDecoder, XIRDecoder and XRemover do not currently offer trials.
